5月号---ついに見つかった(のか?)あの言葉

                           本題(ダジャレ文)
本題の見方---ダジャレ文の中の青色文字は英語の意味、赤色文字は語呂合わせの部分で、
かなりなまったり方言ぽくなる場合があります。また、ダジャレ文は語呂合わせの為の文言で、
意味の正当性、日本文としての正確性は有りません事ご周知下さい。
 英単語に添えられた丸数字は難易度レベルで、詳しくは2012.8/27号をご参照ください。

1)えー、しかる、私はね。倫理観無い子供は。⑤ethical(n)---最近では、エシカルファッション(フェアート
レードとして作られ売買される衣料品のこと)などと使われている模様。(NHKクローズアップ現代6/2)(2015/6/2記)
英語「エシカル(ethical)」は「道徳、倫理上の」という意味。その言葉の通り、良識にかなって
生産、流通されているファッションを指す。エシカルなファッションアイテムは、商品を購入する消費者の側にも、
ショッピングを通した良識の表現者という立場を与える。だから、消費に意義を求める人たちからは、望ましい消費スタイル
と認められつつある。「いい事をした」という納得感まで一緒に得られる点で、消費者の満足度が高く、有力ブランドも
その効果に着目し始めた。
 「道徳、倫理上の」という定義は広いので、エコもその対象に含まれると見ていい。ただ、一般的な「エシカルファッション」
の定義は、環境だけにとどまらず、望ましい労働環境や貧困地域支援、産業振興なども視野に入る。広く社会規範に
配慮した生産・流通を重んじる取り組みと言える。
  エシカルファッションもフェアトレード商品もおしゃれに人格や見識をまとわせてくれる点で、見た目とは
別次元の価値を持つ。エコよりもレンジが広く、伝統的製法や職人技の継承、各地域に根付いた服飾文化の再評
価なども実現できるとあって、有力ブランド・企業も本腰を入れて取り組む気配が見えている。
 「自分さえきれいに見えれば、生産者や地球はどうなっても構わない」というひとりよがりな態度の対極に
エシカルファッションやフェアトレード商品は位置する。企業のがむしゃらな利益追求にもブレーキを掛ける。
同時に、誰かの役に立っているという自負やプライドをまとわせてくれる。善意を持っていても、寄付やボラン
ティアには腰が引ける人でも、おしゃれショッピングという形であれば、気負わずに参加しやすい。眠れる社会
貢献マインドを引き出してくれる意味でもエシカルファッションやフェアトレード商品はさらに日本で
定着していくと期待したい。---ネットより検索した説明文。

                           随想 
2012年、7/9号で、私が長い間見つからず探していたもの、とは「反省(する)」という
意味の英単語でした。
「後悔(する)---regretrepentrepentance」、「懺悔(する)---confessconfession」、
「良心の咎め---compunction、」「罪悪感---guilt,a guilty conscience,guilt complex」
などはあるようなのですが、どうしてもこの「反省(する)」に相当するらしきものが辞書や
文献ではピッタリくるものが見つかりませんでした。
それが、この度の安倍総理の米国議会での演説での単語「remorse---feel deep
 remorse(元は村山談話だそうです)」がどうも「反省(する)」に当たるのであろう事を
知りました。(TVの字幕でそのように翻訳されていました。)
 しかしあーとうとう見つけたの思いもつかの間、例の英語の達人に言わせると
remorse にしてもregretrepentの強い言葉に過ぎず、「反省」即ち「悪かったと
思っている」という意味にはならないそうなのです。つまり「反省(する)」の英訳語に
非ずで、真に見つかったことにはならなかったようです。この意味にするには、下記の
記事の村山談話のように(heartfelt )apologyといった謝罪を意味する用語を付け加え
なければならないようで、一語で両方の意味を込めた英単語はどうやら無いようです。
どなたかご存じの方おられましたらどうかご教唆下さい。かく申しますように、英語には
この「反省」を表す単語だけは皆無に近いのですがかたや驚くなかれ、英語には、
「戦う」「争う」「言い合う」などの敵対を表す単語はごまんとあるのです。(以前号の随想に
収載)これらから分かるのは、欧米人には[争い・戦い・反抗]することにはなじみがあるの
対し、儒教的な行動規範ためなのでしょうか、[反省する]という概念自体が欧米文化
には実は全く欠落しているのではと感じるのは私だけでしょうか。(だいぶ以前からそんな

※「反省する」はintrospectまたはlook into oneselfでよかろうという、某外交官からのご教唆を一昨日
 頂戴しました。ただし、日本語の「反省」の意味合いにもよるとのことです。

                        随想 

 単語数が1500語を超えてきて、ピッタリと語呂合わせ出来る単語は数少なくなってきました。
今回の本題1)のfathomも、語呂合わせが難しかったもので、苦し紛れに妙なストーリーを作って、
思い出せるようにしましたfathで始まる単語はfather以外ではこれだけのようなので、
本題のように、「父」からイメージするものにしました。この単語は、
イギリス英語ではけっこう使われる文語体の単語らしく、"can't fathom~"の形で
「~はとても思いつかない」といった意味で使われるらしいです。
 2000語30000語になるにつけ、語呂合わせというよりはこの手のストーリー仕立てのこじつけが
増えるかも知れません。本題の5)もまさにこれです。ま、とにかく思い出せそうならばなんでも可
考えて頂けますれば幸甚です。
