                             随想
 今回は、数字の表記についての愚痴(pet peeve)です。
 日本語数字は、万、億、兆、京などの単位が4進数であるにも拘らず、桁区切りのコンマは3桁ずつになっているのは一体何故なのでせう。だから、数字を読むとき、慣れた方以外にとっては非常に煩わしい。(3と4の公倍数桁のみ読み易いことになる---つまり兆、杼、溝この上不明)
 桁区切りのコンマを3桁にしたのは、多分、英語の表記(thousand,million,billion,trillionなど三進数単位)に合わせたのでしょうが、数字の瞬時の翻訳も、読み上げ同様いかに煩わしいか、皆さまはいらいらさせられませんでしたか?
 いっそのことtrillion,billion,million,thousandの日本語訳を作り、例えば兆をチョウまたはトリ、10億をウォクまたはビリ、100万をバンまたはミリ、千をセンまたはサウなどとして、12,345,678,912,345は、12チョウまたはトリ345ウォク・ビリ678バン・ミリ912セン・サウ345などと読むようにし、少しでも日英変換をし易くしたらどうかと思います。(今更無理か。)
 プライドが高く、下々に不便を強いたまま改善しようとしないのが、指導層の常とは言え、この「ずれ」はグローバル化した今に残る不合理の極みとしか言いようがありませんね。学習者はそうは言っていても始まりません、数字の翻訳練習に励みませう。あーしんど!
