ご来訪賜り有難うございます。このところはヨーロッパからの方が多いようです。どういう方であられるのかコメント頂けますれば幸いです。
随想－－－形容詞の種類この項、８/１５に大幅に書き換えました。（８/１８にも）
読解では文章の主語・述語がとりあえず掴めれば、おおよその事は察しがつく感じがします。その主語・述語に不明な単語が出現してしまうとお手上げ、殊に述語即ち動詞またはbe動詞の後に来る形容詞が見当も付かないとどうしようもありません。逆に主語・述語がクリアーに分かれば、修飾語や挿入節・句の意味が想像できてくる場合もありますね。そうは言え、各単語の意味が漠然とでも思い浮かべる事ができれば、それに越した事は無く、このダジャレブログはそのための一助です。
ところで、英語の形容詞ですが、名詞の前だけに使われるものを限定用法、be動詞の後にくるものを叙述的用法と称して区別してるようですね。私は、機能が日本語の形容動詞の終止形に相当する述語の役目をするものを「連用形容詞」、機能が日本語の連体詞または形容動詞の連体形に相当する名詞の前でしか使われないものを「連体形容詞」と呼んで区別して覚えるようにしています。
問題は連体形容詞で、後に来る名詞つまり修飾されるものがどうもその形容詞によって大体決まっているようなのです。少なくともネガティブな名詞かポジティブなものかは、はっきり分かれているようで、それを違えると妙な英文に感じられてしまうようなのです。だからと言って、両者を抱き合わせて覚えていくのはいくらなんでも大変ですよね。英会話教材が後から後から出版され、それらがドンドン売れていくのが、納得できますね。私が発信型英語の学習を諦めた理由の一つはここにあります。この辺を皆さんはどんな風に克服されていますか。
我々中級者が英語学習の題材を見つける場合（教材としては逆になるでしょうか、目的にも依るでしょうが）、凝った文章を競うペダンチック（これ自体がペダンチックか？）な文学書よりは、事実を淡々と示す、理工系学術書（今度は専門用語が大変ですが）や各種説明書・新聞記事（ただし高級紙）などの方が組し易いですね。単語力さえ付ければよいのですから。殊に反射運動のそれ程いらないリーディングに限れば、英単語の意味を思い出せさえすればよし、たとえいかなる方法であれ！となるでしょう。中高年者はこれで行きましょう、英会話は全く別な科目と割り切って。（日本国内で英会話を学ぶは、陸上で水泳を習うに似たり－－－孤老の経験）
では本題です。今回は類似語、類義語三題、アラカルトそしておまけの３０語です。英語の例文はWeblio辞書から引用の時は日本語訳が付随されています。
類義語（基本語complete、absolute）－－－このグループには連体形容詞（名詞の前におかれる形容詞）が多いのは不思議ですね。尚、「連体a」は連体形容詞を表します。
１）こんな途方もないことはあらんと arrant(連体a)－－－total属

与野党の攻防も結果は茶番にすぎなかった. - 研究社 新和英中辞典類似語（dis~）－－－接頭辞disには難解なものがかなりありますが、多くは本体部分の意味が分かればその反対や否定の意味になるので察しはつくものの、本体部分が分かりにくい場合は個別に覚えるしかありません。例えば、discern（どうもdis+certainらしいです）,disdain（フランス語のdesdeignierらしいです） など。ここでは、辞書並びの最初の方の７語を取り上げました。
